Two-Line Layups basketball drill diagram on a basketball court
Age: U8+ Type: Shooting Duration: 8-10 min Players: 8-20

A high-rep layup warm-up. A passer under the basket hits the shooter cutting in stride, the shooter finishes off the glass, and the two lines swap so everyone shoots and passes. Runs at both baskets.

Setup:

• A shooting line on one side of the floor and a rebounding line on the other, at both baskets.

• The first rebounder starts under the hoop with a ball.

Execution:

• The shooter cuts toward the basket.

• The rebounder throws a bounce pass into their stride.

• The shooter takes one dribble and two steps and lays it off the glass.

• The passer goes to the back of the shooting line; the shooter goes to the back of the rebounding line.

Coaching points:

• Long, balanced steps, then jump high off the second step.

• Aim for the top corner of the small square on the backboard.

• Right side, right hand; left side, left hand.

• Passer: lead the shooter with a bounce pass they can catch in stride.

Progressions:

• Switch sides every few minutes for the off-hand.

• Add reverse layups and power layups.

• Count makes in a minute as a team and try to beat it.
