3-Man Weave

3-Man Weave basketball drill diagram on a basketball court
Age: U10+ Type: Offensive Duration: 8-10 min Players: 6-15

The classic full-court passing drill. Three players move the ball the length of the floor without dribbling, each following their pass by running behind the player they passed to, and finish with a layup.

Setup:

• Three lines on the baseline: the middle line with the ball and one line on each side.

Execution:

• The middle player passes to one wing and runs behind that player.

• The receiver moves to the middle, passes to the opposite wing and runs behind them.

• Keep weaving up the floor (pass, then go behind the receiver) without dribbling.

• The last pass is a bounce pass to the player attacking the rim for the layup.

• The next three go as soon as the first group crosses half court.

Coaching points:

• Always follow your pass. Passing and standing still breaks the pattern.

• Crisp, chest-high passes, thrown ahead of the receiver.

• Catch on the run with your eyes on the ball and call your teammate's name.

• Sprint the lanes wide to stretch the floor.

Progressions:

• Limit the group to a set number of passes before the layup.

• Run it back the other way as a 2-on-1 with the shooter on defence.

• Turn it into the 3-on-2 / 2-on-1 continuous drill.
