Full-Field Clear

Full-Field Clear field lacrosse drill diagram on a field lacrosse field
Age: U12+ Type: Transition Duration: 15 min Players: 10-14

Turns a save into an attack. The goalie outlets to a defender breaking wide, the ball goes up through a middie over midfield, and the attack finishes at the far end, all against two riders.

Setup:

• A coach with balls at the top of the defensive end and goalies in both cages.

• Two defenders near the crease, a middie at the top of the box, two riding attackmen and an attackman at the far end.

Execution:

• The coach shoots on the goalie.

• On the save, both defenders break wide toward the sidelines.

• The goalie outlets to the open defender.

• The defender carries up the sideline and hits the middie opening up on the ball side.

• The middie carries over midfield and finds the attackman coming out to meet the ball.

• The attackman finishes on the far goal.

Coaching points:

• Break wide on the save. Width is what beats the ride.

• Always give the ball carrier an outlet ahead of the ball.

• Move it before the rider arrives. A carried ball is easier to ride than a passed one.

• If the outlet isn't there, settle and reset rather than force it.

Progressions:

• Add a third rider.

• Make the riders live from the start.

• Put a clock on the clear: over midfield in 10 seconds.
