3v2 Fast Break

3v2 Fast Break field lacrosse drill diagram on a field lacrosse field
Age: U12+ Type: Transition Duration: 12-15 min Players: 12-16

A live fast-break drill that tests passing decisions, shot selection and transition awareness all at once. Three attackers try to beat two defenders and finish in four passes or fewer. Runs at both ends.

Setup:

• A coach with balls at midfield and a middie breaking from the wing.

• Two wings near the top of the box and two defenders protecting each goal.

Execution:

• The middie takes the coach's feed and pushes the ball hard toward the top of the box.

• The top defender steps up to stop the ball.

• The middie moves it to the open wing.

• The second defender slides to the wing, leaving the low attacker open.

• One more quick pass to the attacker cutting to the crease, and finish.

Coaching points:

• Push the ball hard. The break only works before the defence recovers.

• Stay wide and keep your spacing. A tight triangle is easy to guard.

• Move it quickly, because the ball beats the slide.

• Defenders: talk, stop the ball and protect the crease.

Progressions:

• Add a 10-second shot clock.

• Send a backchecking middie after three seconds to make it 3v3.

• Score the offence on how many passes it takes to get a quality shot, not just goals.
