2-on-1 Crease Finish

2-on-1 Crease Finish box lacrosse drill diagram on a box lacrosse floor
Age: U10+ Type: Offensive, Defensive Duration: 10 min Players: 8-14

A fast 2-on-1 at both ends. It trains the ball carrier to draw the lone defender and move the ball to the crease at the right moment, and trains the defender to delay and recover.

Setup:

• A coach with balls at centre, a line of attackers on the bench side, plus a crease attacker and one defender at each end. Goalies in.

Execution:

• The ball carrier breaks in and takes a feed from the coach.

• The defender steps up hard to stop the ball, then has to backpedal toward the crease.

• The crease attacker curls up from below the goal line into the open lane with the stick ready.

• The carrier draws the defender, moves it across, and the crease player finishes in tight before the defender can recover.

Coaching points:

• Carrier: attack the net to make the defender choose. Don't pass too early.

• Crease player: stay in the open lane and give a target.

• Defender: take away the middle, stay between the ball and the crease, and recover hard.

Progressions:

• Add a trailing backchecker to make it 2-on-2 after five seconds.

• Restrict the crease player to one-touch finishes.

• Start both ends on one whistle and keep score.
