Seven Pass 2 on 1
Drill Overview: High-Tempo 7-Pass Transition to 2v1
Focus: Fast-paced puck movement, verbal communication, spatial awareness, and quick offensive transition.
Requirements: Minimum of seven sequential passes before entering a 2v1 rush against the originating defender.
Setup & Organization
Forwards: Split into four lines positioned at the blue lines.
Defensemen: Divided into two lines, each stationed on opposite face-off dots at either end of the ice.
Execution Flow
Pass 1: Defender 1 (D1) initiates the play by passing to Forward 1 (F1) as F1 sweeps into the high slot.
Pass 2: Forward 2 (F2) supports by swinging the opposite way, receiving a cross-ice pass from F1 near center ice.
Pass 3: Both forwards drive toward the opposite zone, where F2 dishes the puck to the Green F3 player.
Pass 4: That forward passes the puck to the defensive player (blue D2) positioned at the opposite corner.
Pass 5: The receiving defenseman moves the puck laterally across the zone to the next forward (white F4) lined up at the blue line.
Pass 6: As F1 and F2 maintain their skating momentum, F2 loops back in the reverse direction to receive this pass and jumpstart the rush.
Pass 7 (Final Pass): F2 feeds the puck ahead to F1 to establish a clean 2v1 attack heading back toward the original zone. F1 should stay slightly ahead to encourage quick "head-manning" of the puck.
Defensive Rotation & Shot
Immediately after initiating the sequence, D1 pivots backward to receive a transition pass from the next defender in line.
D1 takes a quick shot or one-timer on net, hustles back to reclaim ice, and prepares to defend the incoming 2v1 rush launched by F1 and F2.
