Edging Battle Drill hockey drill diagram on an NHL-spec rink
Age: U11+ Type: Offensive Duration: 10 min Players: 6-8

This competitive 1v1 edging battle drill teaches players to win puck battles in open ice, use strong edging technique, protect the puck, and quickly transition once they gain possession.

Key Teaching Points:

• Strong inside edges and powerful crossovers while battling

• Keep the puck away from your body and use your stick and body to shield

• Quick recognition and explosive transition once you win the puck

Progressions: Players start battles on their knees, then progress to lying flat on their stomachs. On the whistle they explode into the battle, forcing powerful starts from poor positions before racing to win the puck and transition up ice.
